Testimonials....
Daniel R. Masiello Hi my name is Dan Masiello. I have been a participant, observer, and coach in the MYT™ program over the past 5 or 6 years. As a participant I found the training, coaching and education to be very helpful, educational and practical in both real and business scenarios. My experience as a participant has helped me reduce my own stress level dramatically both at work and at home. It also gave me a great appreciation for the impact of small changes that if done consistantly have a large impact over time. This is a program that can benefit all advisors staff and leaders, it does though benefit you even more if you take the advice given.

MYT Announcements: Cutting Edge Psychology and Neuroscience Training is what MYT is all about.

In a recent discussion about cutting edge psychology the topic of Cognitive Dissonance came up so I asked Dr. Fred Luskin to explain what this was all about. Here is his response.
Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously. The theory of cognitive dissonance proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by changing their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, or by justifying or rationalizing them. [2] Dissonance occurs when a person perceives a logical inconsistency in his beliefs, when one idea implies the opposite of another. The dissonance might be experienced as guilt, anger, frustration, or embarrassment. The idea of "sour grapes"-from the fable The Fox and the Grapes by Aesop (ca. 620-564 BCE), where the fox decides that the grapes he is unable to reach are probably not ripe enough to eat anyway-illustrates an example of cognitive dissonance: desiring something, then criticizing it because it proves unattainable, a phenomenon that Jon Elster calls "adaptive preference formation." [1] A powerful cause of dissonance is an idea in conflict with a fundamental element of the self-concept, such as "I am a good person" or "I made the right decision". The anxiety that comes with the possibility of having made a bad decision can lead to rationalization, the tendency to create additional reasons or justifications to support one's choices. A person who just spent too much money on a new car might decide that the new vehicle is much less likely to break down than his or her old car. This belief may or may not be true, but it would reduce dissonance and make the person feel better. Dissonance can also lead to confirmation bias, the denial of disconfirming evidence, and other ego defense mechanisms.re offering a free 2 hour seminar where we will ex

Q. How did you hear about MYT and its EQ work? A. Art DeLorenzo worked with me as an advisor coach prior to my taking the MYT seminar. EQ training was a component of the monthly coaching meetings. Art had recommended that I consider the seminar as part of my training and development.
Q. What was your first experience like? A. What stays with me is the concept that most people are academically/technically qualified for the job they are performing or seek. What separates individual performance is one's ability to develop and manage their emotional competence.
Q. Did you receive focused, direct & honest feedback from your "observers". A. I don't have a clear recollection of the time spent with my observers. Q. How did you react to your IDP and do you still refer to it? A. My reaction to the IDP was a holistic approach to my business development. I would further succeed in business if I improved how I emotionally reacted to all facets of my life. My personal life with my children and wife, my inner self spiritually, how I maintained myself physically, my community and the organizations I belong to and my staff and clients. In addition, how I was able to balance the intellectually, physical and spiritual part of my life would determine how effective I could become. Q. Tell the readers about the coaching calls - what were they like? A. During the coaching session I would review different encounters I had since the last session. We would review how I reacted and how I could improve the reaction and outcome I had during the interaction. For the coaching calls to be effective, it required that I keep a detailed diary of the daily events and encounters I had during the day/week. The time using the diary was a good way to reflect on my actions of the day and how I was behaving on an emotional level. Q. Do you feel you are more emotionally competent? A. I believe I am more emotionally competent than prior to the training. And I am also aware of current situations where I could improve my behavior in reacting to a situation. Q. How has it helped you? A. During a busy week I am able to reduce stress by: a.) Reviewing past weeks that were busy and how I successfully accomplished what needed to be done b.) Planning out the tasks that need to be done so that I convince myself the work can be done in a timely manner c.) After I am convinced it can be done, focus on the day's work and do not concern myself with other tasks. d.) Keep a balanced life so that I can look at positive developments in one part of my life when others parts are not going as well. e.) Keep focused on the importance of exercise, investing time in maintaining relationships, eating healthy and the pacing of my meals through the day Q. Was attending MYT worth the investment and if so how can you quantify it? A. Yes. I quantify the investment by stating I can accomplish more of what I want to because I spend less of my energy during the day being stressed or consumed with emotional non productive thoughts. Less of my energy goes towards stress and worrying about a situation. I am able to keep focused on the tasks that I must complete to maintain a successful and growing practice. I believe the growth of my business last year and the minimal client loss is a reflection of my ability to perform during a very difficult economic environment. Also, on a personal level it has helped me in my raising four teen-agers over the last few years. I am able to focus in on the important issues and let the minor incidents go to the sidelines.
